Anchor FP Pastry & Culinary Challenge 2018 Shapes Future Master Chefs

Anchor Food Professionals Pastry & Culinary Challenge 2018 was recently held in Malaysia from 13-16 March. The competition nurtures Malaysia’s future culinary and pastry artisans and elevates the standards of the food industry.
“As the country’s largest provider of high-quality dairy products, we are constantly engaging with chefs and have discovered so much hidden potential. Some have carved a name for themselves and some are gems waiting to be uncovered. We felt it was our duty to explore, nurture and celebrate the amazing number of young chefs in this country who can reach greater heights with the right encouragement,” said Linda Tan, Director of Anchor Food Professionals.

The Challenge is a 4-day competition based on 3 categories namely Pastries, Cake and Culinary. Pastry and Culinary maestros were invited to form the luminary panel of judges with Chef Jean Francois Arnaud MOF who served as the Head Judge in Pastry Category, along with Chef Nazeri Ismail, and Chef Arthur Heng in this category. In the Culinary Category, Chef Gerhard Albrecht served as the Head Judge, along with Chef Fami Taufeq and Chef Sabri Hassan.

Twenty-five finalists competed in the Challenge in their respective categories. Contestants were required to create a simple croissant and six types of Danish for the pastry category; whereas under the cake category each contestant was required to create two types of cakes with Mango and Strawberry themes respectively. The theme for the culinary category was Land and Sea of Malaysia with a twist of Modern French Cuisine where contestants were required to prepare a 3-course meal based on the theme and criteria given.
The winners of this year’s Anchor Food Professionals Pastry and Culinary Challenge were:
- Tan Chee Kit from GrainLoaf Penang in the Pastry Category (Bakery Channel).
- Yong Yi Yunn from Bake Culture Brunei in the Best Cake Category (Bakery Channel)
- Gan Terk Yeong from Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara in the Best Cake Category (Hotel Channel)
- Nigel Walter Lazaroo from The Face Suites Platinum Victory Resort in the Culinary Category (Hotel Channel)
