Vietnam’s Next Top Baker 2017

The inaugural Vietnam’s Next Top Baker 2017, a baking competition organised by Anchor Food Professionals, was held in June and open to both professionals and home bakers. The competition consists of two rounds, online voting and a bake off event.
Contestants submitted their creations online, accompanied with photos and videos of their recipes and ingredients. There were 338 entries, 56 professionals and 282 home bakers. The top 5 of each group went through to the final round, the bake off event.
Finalists were selected by online voting consisting of 70% of their total score. Completion judges, Anchor Food Professionals Advisory Chefs Bertrand Sommereux and Lam Nguyen scored the final 30%.
Pastry Chef Narae Kim of Park Hyatt Saigon and Chef Trang, leader of Bon Appetit Bakery joined the Anchor Food Professionals judges to make up the competition judging panel. Their skills, experience and reputation build trust in the competition, especially at its debut.
The final Vietnam’s Next Top Baker 2017 bake off event was livestreamed on Anchor Food Professionals Vietnam Facebook fanpage allowing audiences to watch and interact with the finalists and judges online.
The performance, skills, taste and presentation of the cakes from both the home and professional contestants was impressive and received high praise from the judges.
The winner of professional group was Vu Nguyen Thanh Son with his Banana Chocolate Mousse. For the home baker group, Lam Thi Thuy Nhang got the highest score with her Ms Hanoi cake, which was made with Vietnamese traditional young rice and coconut.
Vietnam’s Next Top Baker 2017 highlighted the great partnership between Anchor Food Professionals and Kenwood. Kenwood was sole sponsor of the completion and provided their high quality, professional mixers for use during the competition. The winners also took these away with them!
